Download a Linux OS from the internet. I am going to use Ubuntu. So go to Ubuntu official site or click the following link to download the Ubuntu.
It will start the downloading of the Ubuntu ISO or just click the “download now” link.
Burn the ISO file on a CD/DVD or create a bootable pen drive with Ubuntu ISO to install it in a laptop or desktop. After creating bootable media insert it into CD/DVD drive or USB port and then “Restart” the computer. For this tutorial Pen Drive is used. After restarting the computer press “F12” key when BIOS screen appears to see the available boot options. It will show all the “Boot Device Selection Options”. Select the pen drive and hit “Enter”.
After loading the file on the RAM the Ubuntu will come up with two options “Try Ubuntu” or “Install Ubuntu”. There is no need to install the operating system on the hard disk if “Try Ubuntu” option is selected but you will able to use all the features of the Ubuntu with “Try Ubuntu” option. Our aim is to install the OS into the hard disk. So Set your “language” from left side and hit the “Install Ubuntu” button.
“Preparing to install Ubuntu” window will pop up. It will take you to erase hard disk option. If you are using a hard disk with no data then go with “Erase disk and install Ubuntu”. This option will format the hard disk, rearrange and create the new partition for Linux OS. Click “Continue” button.
Please pay attention here. This is very important step because it can erase all the data present on the hard disk.I will suggest you that if you have data on the hard disk please save it on other external hard disk then go for the next step. If there is no data in the hard disk then select “Erase disk and install Ubuntu” and click “Continue”.
“Erase disk and install Ubuntu” window will pop up. It will show the hard disk that you are using. Click “Install Now” button.
It will start copying files from bootable media and installation of the Ubuntu on the hard disk. During copying file “location”, “Keyboard layout”, and “who are you” with “name, computer name and password” option for login will come up so insert these options and click corresponding “Continue” button.
Now final installation process of Ubuntu will continue and it will complete in 5 to 15 minutes.
After complete installation restart option will pop up. “Restart” your computer. Ubuntu will ask to enter the password. Enter your password and hit “Enter”. The default desktop setting will appear.
The installation of the Ubuntu is completed. Now you can explore the Ubuntu OS.
