We can make a pen drive bootable for Linux based operating system using free software. There will not be any requirement of a CD/DVD drive to format a system, only USB port can do the job. Here is the procedure to make the pen drive bootable.
Download the latest version of “LinuxLive USB Creator” from the official site or just click the following link.
“Double click” the downloaded file to install the software on the Windows platform. “Installer Language” window will pop up and click the “Ok” button. “LinuxLive USB Creator Setup” will appear. Click “Next”.
Click “Install” button to start the installation.
Installation will complete in a moment. After complete installation click the “Next” to finish the installation process and then Click “Finish”.
Insert the pen drive into USB port. Before starting the process first format the pen drive in FAT32/FAT file format using any format software or windows OS and then start the “LinuxLive USB Creator”.
Now choose your pen drive from the “Choose a USB Key” option.
Click the step 2 option “ISO/IMG/ZIP” to load ISO file of Ubuntu or any other Linux version for bootable purpose. It will open a browse window to load ISO into “LinuxLive USB Creater” platform. Select the Ubuntu OS from your computer and click “Open”. Some time it can show compatibility issue but Ubuntu version will work fine as Live CD.
Click on the “Lightening icon” in the step 5 to start the making of bootable USB process.
It will extract the files of ISO in the pen drive and will create boot sectors. After few minutes it will show completion message “Your LinuxLive Key is now up and ready!”.
Now “Restart” your computer, press “F12” key when BIOS screen appears, select pen drive and hit “Enter” to boot from Live USB. It will start booting computer from the pen drive.
