Creating a Server on a windows system is very cool feature on a particular system. Now a days many enthusiast like me and you love to develop our own working environment for learning and testing purpose. So this tutorial will help you to make your computer as a home server. You can run your PHP or other type of dynamic design/work on your own system. If you’re new in designing the dynamic websites then you can test your website on the home server before putting it for the real world.
Here are some steps to install a webserveron the windows operating system.
There are so many software available like wampserver, XAMPP and many more but I am using XAMPP. These packages have bunch of software like Apache, PHP, FileZila, Tomcat and Mercury at one place. To download the software, go to the site of XAMPP or simply click the following link
Now scroll down the page and look for the download link. Click one of the file “Installer/ZIP/7zip” to download the XAMPP server. I downloaded the installer version. (Fig.1)
After downloading the file just double click the installer. A window will pop up. Click “Next>” button. Click “Next>” two times more and then “Install”. (Fig.2)
It will complete the installation of the server on your system in few minutes depending on your system. (Fig.3)
Finally click the “Finish” button. The installer will install the server in a folder with name “xampp” inside the root folder of the windows operating. The server folder can be located inside “Local Disk(C):” (Fig.4)
Now check the installation of the server is working or not. Go to “DeskTop” and double click the icon “XAMPP Control Panel”. “XAMPP Control Panel” window will pop. Now click “Start” button in front of “Apache” module. (Fig.5)
This will start the Apache server. Now open your internet browser and type simply localhost in the address bar and hit the “ENTER” button. You will see the default page of the XAMPP server. (Fig.6)
That’s it. Now your system has become a webserver. Now you can configure the XAMPP options according to your need.
